In Cala de l'Illa Mateua, as its name suggests, we find a large island with rocky bottoms and impressive posidonia meadows. This dive is done from the shore and is accessible without much difficulty. The island is about 70 meters long by 25 meters wide, and under the surface there are two small tunnels that cross it between -6 meters and -10 meters.

Leaving the outermost tunnel of the island and taking a 300º course, we will arrive at the wreck of the Constantin, a French navy tugboat that crashed into the Punta dels Cinc Sous while being transported for scrapping in 1963. Now, many parts of the wreck are scattered at shallow depths, between -5 meters and -10 meters.

The marine life in Cala de l'Illa Mateua is abundant and diverse. On the rocky bottoms and posidonia meadows, you can observe a wide variety of marine species. This dive site on the coast of l'Escala offers a unique experience, combining the exploration of stunning underwater landscapes and the submerged history of the Constantin shipwreck. The proximity to the town of l'Escala makes this place a popular destination for both beginner and experienced divers, providing easy access to rich biodiversity and fascinating historical sites.
